The fastest way to lose a cake booking is a vague conversation. "Something floral, three tiers, elegant" means one thing to your client and another to you — and the gap only shows up on collection day. A digital sketch closes that gap. What you need to start
You don't need to be an artist and you don't need expensive kit. The favourite combination is an iPad Pro and an Apple Pencil — that gives you the most control, especially pressure sensitivity. But you can absolutely start on an iPhone with Procreate Pocket and a cheap stylus, or even your finger. You'll want:
- The Procreate app (iPad) or Procreate Pocket (iPhone), a one-off purchase from the App Store
- An Apple Pencil or stylus (optional but recommended)
- A set of cake sketching stamps and brushes so you're not drawing every element from scratch

Step 1: Set your canvas and drop in a real cake stand
Most tutorials start you with a blank cake shape. Start with the stand instead. It makes the proof look real, it helps the client picture the finished table, and it means the proportions you show are the proportions you'll actually build.
